Another statue of a worker or overseer (shown here, compare with photo of four statues), his eyes blackened with kohl (black eye paint made with charcoal), is flanked by small statues of his wife and child. These statues, along with other elegant finds from the workers’ cemetery at Giza, suggest that those who built and maintained the pyramids were not the whip-driven slaves of legend.
