Osiris: In legend, Osiris was killed by his brother and then pieced back together by his wife, Isis. Thus he is associated with the afterlife. In this 18th Dynasty (1550–1295 B.C.) wall painting from a tomb in Deir el-Medina, Osiris’s green skin suggests his other role—as a fertility god, possibly in association with seeds sprouting from beneath the ground.
