The Louvre

This gold pendant was found in the tomb of a princess at Ugarit; it shows a nude female standing on a lion and holding an ibex in each hand (compare with photo of pendant from the Uluburun ship). The fertility goddess represented in these pendants was worshiped under different names (Astarte, Anat) at different times. Astarte-Anat, the principal goddess in the Canaanite pantheon, may also have been worshiped in Israel as Asherah.
