An impish Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778) is captured by the 18th-century Venetian artist Felice Polanzani in his engraving Portrait of Piranesi as an Antique Sculpture. Some art historians believe Polanzani’s engraving is a copy or adaptation of a lost self-portrait by Piranesi.
