A broad set of steps, with flanking columns, once led up to a Garamantian temple to the ancient Egyptian-Libyan god Amun. The temple’s ruins were first discovered—along with many other Garamantian relics—by the British archaeologist Charles Daniels, who excavated at Germa in the 1960s.
