For their tools, Stone Age peoples used, of course, stone—not yet having the luxury of metals. To chop, cut and maim, the Yarmukians created flint arrowheads, spearheads and denticulated sickle-blades (shown here, compare with photos of storage jar, obsidian and sherds), as well as limestone awls, scrapers and axes. The Yarmukians got this limestone and flint from the nearby Yarmuk River (thus the name “Yarmukians”), but for some projects they preferred more exotic materials. A handful of seashells, imported from the Mediterranean coast, have been found at Sha‘ar Hagolan. They were probably used as ornamentation.
