The Sha‘ar Hagolan excavators have also discovered ten fragments of obsidian (shown here, compare with photos of storage jar, sherds and flint arrowheads); the nearest source of obsidian was in Anatolia, several hundred miles to the north. The presence of these foreign materials indicates that the Yarmukians participated in long distance trade networks and probably had regular contact with neighboring settlements in the Jordan Valley.
