Beverly Rezneck

Across the island, in western Sicily, the ancient Greek settlement at Segesta (shown here, compare with photo of amphitheater at Taormina, Sicily) contains a massive, but unfinished, Doric temple. It is thought to have been started around the same time as the Parthenon (c. 432 B.C.E.), when the citizens of Segesta were enjoying a prosperous alliance with Athens.
