Marble and granite columns are lined up beside their bases in what was once the nave of a church at Sussita, on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The Byzantine church collapsed during an earthquake that struck Israel in 749 A.D. The columns, which supported only a light roof, fell in the direction of the ground motion.
