Our earliest human ancestors, Homo erectus, evolved about two million years ago in Africa; these hominids, bearing thick sloping skulls with heavy brow ridges (shown here, compare with photos of Homo sapiens sapiens skull and Neandertal skull), migrated out of Africa and spread throughout the Old World from Spain to China.
