Neolithic Period: 4th millennium B.C. and earlier
The highlands of Yemen were inhabited by a substantial population of hunters and gatherers during the prehistoric period. Traces of their early settlements—some showing evidence of the first artificial irrigation systems—have been largely erased by the subsequent construction of thousands of terraced fields. Some Neolithic artifacts, however, such as these arrowheads found at a site east of Dhamar, have been recovered.
