The excavators found ten 3-inch-high faience vases with lids (shown here, compare with photo of shabti figurines). Each of these vases still contained their original sacred oil, the name of which was written in ink on the outer surface. One vase, for example, is said to hold “the purest cedar oil.” Unfortunately, the oils have degenerated into carbon, making it impossible to identity their contents chemically.
