Symposium revelers drink, gesture and gaze lasciviously at a naked female piper on the interior of the early 5th-century B.C. kylix decorated by the Foundry Painter. Symposium guests were expected to bring these distinctively shaped, two-handled drinking cups to the symposium—and, indeed, the vessels depicted on the cup are shaped just like the cup itself.
