Vindolanda Trust

A man and a woman, betrothed to each other, appear to be kissing on this medallion from Vindolanda dating to the third century A.D. Although Vindolanda was built as an outpost for the Roman army, families lived there, too. This medallion (and the birthday invitation) suggests that there was more to life at Vindolanda than defending the frontier.
