Reliquiae Acquitanicae

Numerous rock shelters are shown in the escarpment overhanging the French village of Les Eyzies in this lithograph from Reliquiae Acquitanicae. Although Edouard Lartet and Henry Christy found Paleolithic tools and carved bone fragments in these caves, Edouard’s son, Louis, discovered 30,000-year-old human skeletons in the Les Eyzies cave of Cro-Magnon.
