This magnificent antechamber is located in the middle level (of three levels) of Malta’s only prehistoric underground temple, known as the Hypogeum. Most likely used for both burial and ritual purposes, the room was carved out of rock more than 5,000 years ago by Neolithic people wielding antler picks and stone mallets.
