Ancient Stabiae’s villas were decorated with lovely frescoes, some of the most delicate and beautiful works of ancient (or modern) art. This 15-inch-high painting of the goddess Diana arming her bow—Diana was a virgin goddess who protected animals, women and childbirth—was found in a cubicle in the Villa Arianna.
