Another country villa, the Villa Carmiano, was discovered in 1963 just to the east of Stabiae. Somewhat less sumptuous than its neighbors, this villa also sported walls with painted mythological scenes and flying figures—including this ethereal, winged maiden carrying fruits and flowers. The Villa Carmiano was backfilled in 1998 to protect the site.
