The emperor, the First Family and important Roman officials appear in procession on this relief on the Ara Pacis. The stately figure in the front row at far left is Augustus, who is followed by one of Rome’s two consuls, who in turn is followed by four Flaminian priests wearing distinctive headgear. Next comes a lictor with a club-like fasces on his shoulder, Augustus’s son-in-law Agrippa (whose son Caius Caesar clutches his father’s toga), Agrippa’s wife (and Augustus’s daughter) Julia, and Augustus’s step-son Tiberius, as well as other members of the imperial family.
