Processions of tribute-bearers from 23 lands are carved on the walls of the Apadana’s stairways. These emissaries are depicted in their native dress, taking precious gifts to the Persian king. In the second register from the bottom, Scythians wear distinctive, pointed hats and carry such tribute as gold armlets and a finely wrought scabbard; they are accompanied by a round-hatted Mede. In the bottom register, Ionians offer woven cloth and skeins of wool.
