The stumps of walls and columns marking the outline of an Israelite 4-room house from Stratum II of Tell Masos. The orientation is the same as the plan above. Note the cooking pit in the center of the courtyard between the columns. It may seem as though there are more than four rooms, but archaeologists count each of the three side rooms as one room on a side, even though it may be subdivided. The center courtyard is counted as the fourth room.
