The frigidarium in the Herodian Palace—a round structure with four semi-circular niches, two of which can be seen in the picture. Floor level can be seen in the niches. The central column and channels around it were below floor level and probably supported a large basin or pool. (The channels clearly did not hold water because they have no waterproof plaster.) So-called opus quadratum and opus reticulatum—elements of Roman concrete—can be seen on the curved walls.
