At first glance this looks like an ordinary oil lamp in the form of a bowl with a pinch in the rim in which to place a wick. But look carefully. There are seven pinches in which to place seven wicks, a Canaanite seven-wicked lamp from Nahariya, perhaps a predecessor of a seven-wicked lampstand in Solomon’s Temple or of the seven-branched candelabra (the Menorah) which has become the symbol of Judaism.
