A recently discovered turret on the southern wall of the Old City which dates from the Crusader Period. Above the remains of this turret the excavators found in the southern wall the blocked-up Tanners’ Gate, a small postern gate which afforded an entrance to Jerusalem in the Crusader Period, as revealed in several old maps. On the skyline is the tower of the Victoria Augusta Hospital on the Mount of Olives.
