An aerial photograph of the southern edge of the Old City (upper right), the southern wall of the Old City, and the excavations outside the southern wall. A plan of the Nea Church is superimposed. The southernmost apse of Nea (3) protrudes outside the wall and is adjacent to the ruins of a Byzantine hospice. Along the periphery of the wall (4) are dwellings and other structures from Second Temple, Byzantine and early Islamic times. The structures extending almost to the Dung Gate (2) within the walls, are the buildings of the rebuilt Jewish Quarter.
