Subterranean vaults which supported the Nea Church and the hospices adjacent to it. On the wall of one such vault, Avigad found a Greek inscription which mentions Justinian, the Byzantine emperor who built the Nea. Avigad refuses to release a picture of the inscription until he publishes it in a technical scientific report.
