The mausoleum from Khirbet Shema’. Medieval sages attributed this tomb to Shammai, a 1st century B.C. sage. Since that time pilgrims have venerated the site, although it is not known whether the attribution is correct. Archaeologists have thus far been unable to date the mausoleum.
