Hasmonean Ritual Baths, after restoration: Existing walls were reinforced and delicate water channels, with still intact ancient plaster, were restored. The curved opening in the foreground probably once held a water heater used to warm the adjacent pool water. This oval opening had collapsed and could not be seen until it was restored with BAR funds. Note the restored condition—which will now retain itself indefinitely—of the wall at the bottom of the “after” picture; compare this wall as it appears in the “before” picture.
