Izbet Sartah, possibly Biblical Ebenezer, an 11th century B.C. Israelite settlement in the Samarian foothills. Moshe Kochavi, excavation director, stands with plan in hand before the remains of the four-room house which will be restored by BAR’s Archaeological Preservation Fund. From Izbet Sartah, the Israelites went into the plain where they met and were defeated by the Philistines who captured the Ark of the Law.
