Cow and Suckling Calf: Found at Kuntillet Ajrud (see bottom and copy on upper left), this motif was widely known in the Syro-Phoenician world of the 9th century B.C. The strikingly similar, though much more refined, ivory carving was discovered at Nimrud, ancient Kellah, in northern Syria in the palace of the Assyrian king, Shalmaneser III (859–824 B.C.).
