The fierce-looking galgal, or Israel thistle, has a weak base which the wind easily breaks from its root, sending the shrub tumbling across the fields and plains. The Psalmist understood the thistle’s dual nature when he implored God to “scatter [thy enemies] like galgal before the wind.”
