1 Kings 9:15 relates that Solomon built cities at Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. Archaeologists have uncovered all three of these Solomonic sites and found that each has an identical gate, thus confirming the Biblical description. The most complete example of these gates is at Gezer (top). The entranceway to the massive gate complex is in the upper center of the picture from which a drainage channel of a later period now marks the position of the road which once covered it. The six chambers flank the roadway.
