Limestone ossuary: Approximately one year after burial, an individual’s bones were placed in a covered limestone ossuary. These ossuaries are usually decorated with two or three incised rosettes; the ossuaries are painted red, and sometimes are inscribed. They are usually about 20 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 12 inches high. The cover on the ossuary pictured here has been broken.
