On the floor of a burial koch carved into the chalk wall of a tomb chamber are fragments of the corner posts and the collapsed top of a wooden coffin. The floor panel has disappeared but it left its imprint in the soft chalk. The large pieces of wood miraculously survived the ages because of the hot, dry climate in the Judean desert. In other burial recesses, archaeologists found human bones and burial objects.
