The strong influence Syro-Hittite culture exerted on northern Palestine is apparent in this Late Bronze Age (14th–13th centuries B.C.) basalt lion orthostat from Hazor. Superbly crafted, this lion door jamb from a Canaanite Temple resembles the lions guarding the gate of Bogûazko¬y. Approximately five feet long and just under three feet high, it is only half the size of the lions at Bogûazko¬y.
