A menacing god stands in profile, his right hand clasped around a long spear or shaft, his left hand raised above his head ready to hurl an axe or mace. This inch-high figure, incised on a clay handle, was found at Hazor in northern Israel by BAR Editor’s daughter Elizabeth Shanks, then 6 years-old. It probably came from the Late Bronze stratum of the mound. The figure shows a distinct Hittite influence by its pointed hat, upturned shoes, and short tunic or skirt.
