Gibeon—The zigzag feeder tunnel was cut from the cave-like water chamber at the base of the tell to the spring under the city wall, so that the spring water would flow more freely into the water chamber. Although the spring is only 94 feet from the water chamber, the feeder tunnel covers about 110 feet. The meandering path of the tunnel suggests that the original diggers followed a trickle of water as it flowed through fissures in the rock.
