Two seven-branched menorahs flank the Ark of the Law in this
arcosolium, from the Villa Torlonia catacombs.
Although the inside of the ark has been damaged, the ends of two stylized Torah scrolls are visible. Above the ark is a sun peeking through a cloud, a star and a moon. On either side of the Ark of the Law is (from left to right) a lulav (not visible), a pomegranate, a vase, a shofar, a knife, and an etrog. The fancifully decorated scallops above the scene seem to be curtains.
Similar scenes with an Ark of the Law and these same Jewish symbols were frequently depicted in gold laminated glass discs.
