Thousands of pilgrims, like these awaiting the start of a Palm Sunday procession in the courtyard of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre filled Jerusalem in April 1911, when Passover, Easter and the Moslem feast of Nebi Musa coincided. When news of Parker’s incursions on the Temple Mount reached the pilgrims, they rioted in anger over Turkish complicity in the desecration of such a holy site.
