A closed Rose of Jericho skeleton (left). Dormant seeds are enclosed in the tough fruit which rest on the upper surface of the incurling branches. After immersion in water (right), the skeleton opens. Its twigs expand and extend exposing the fruits which wait for more water before falling to the ground.
