The plan shows the pits of Stratum IX as rounded areas some of which were reused in Stratum VIII. Three strata of Beer-sheba are superimposed in this plan. At the bottom is a building from Stratum VIII (with hatched lines) which was built over some pits from the earlier level. Above the pits at the top of the plan are some of the four-room houses which ringed the site in Stratum VII. Each of these four-room houses has a broad room at the bottom (forming the outside wall of the settlement) and three long rooms (sometimes subdivided) extending into the settlement from the broad room. These houses were entered from inside the settlement. Note that some structures in Stratum VII were built outside the circumvallation of houses, on the slope leading to the well (marked 1325).
