Buckets of fill pulled up by a winch gradually expose the more than 100-foot-deep rock-cut shaft of the ancient well of Beer-sheba. So far, the bottom of the well, that is, water-level, has not been reached. Seen around the top of the well are some of the stones which line the upper 20 feet of the shaft.
