Part of the paved area and the wall of the puzzling round structure. The picture is dominated, however, by the balk across its center. A balk is the unexcavated catwalk that encloses an excavation square. The reader can follow this balk along the upper left side of the picture. The paved area can be seen inside the excavation square at the top of the picture and a portion of the wall around the paved area can be seen in the center of the square. The wall and pavement presumably continue under the balk in the center; they reappear in the excavated area in the foreground. The wall, seen again in the lower right corner, consists of two rows of stones slightly higher than the paved area.
