Crude hand-made “Negev” pottery was found in abundance in all three fortresses at Kadesh-Barnea. “Negev” pottery cannot be used to date strata because it was used essentially unchanged over a long period of time. So archaeologists must date it by other datable pottery found with it. Negev pottery is found in many central and southern Negev sites at levels dating from the 13th to 6th century B.C.
