This massive dump on the southeastern slope of the Hill of Ophel was left by Captain Raymond Weill who dug here both before and after World War I. Weill explored the rock-cut tombs on the crest of the hill and the Siloam Channel which carried the waters of the Gihon Spring along the eastern side of the City of David. This photograph was taken a little after the Weill excavations.
