The vaulted chamber before clearing was almost completely blocked with accumulated debris. Barrel vaults such as this one are not known prior to the first century B.C. It is certain, therefore, that this chamber was added at that time or later. Complete removal of debris from the chamber revealed the original entrance room on bedrock 19 feet below the top of the later vault.
