Dried carbon ink was found in these inkwells which were excavated at Qumran, the community which produced the Dead Sea Scrolls. Scribes at Qumran may have used these very inkwells when they wrote some of the Dead Sea Scrolls which were to be discovered 2000 years later hidden in nearby caves.
