Hershel Shanks

The paved royal ceremonial road led up to the east side of the ninth century B.C. Israelite Gate. The pavement continued through the outer and inner gateways and into the city. This view is from outside the gate. The outer gate once stood about where the path is interrupted by low walls on the right. Against the wall in the background can be seen the podium which once held the king’s throne or statue seen below.
