Divers discovered this huge stone block at the terminus of Caesarea’s northern breakwater. It is believed to be from one of the towers Josephus described at either side of Herod’s harbor entrance. The block is 13 feet (4 meters) long, 4.5 feet (1.35 meters) high and weighs several tons.
Two semi-circular lead projections on the top of the block fit into two matching depressions in another stone discovered in the harbor. The projections and depressions were part of a building method for securing the massive stones together, probably one on top of another.
