The oldest mask in the world. Dating to the early (pre-pottery) Neolithic Period, 9,000 years ago, this life size mask is made of hard limestone, not pottery. Its purpose—to frighten evil spirits, or to enhance the powers of the wearer or to protect the dead—is unclear.
